How Adams Brown’s Flexibility Helps Achieve Work-Life Balance

Meagan Wellbrock, Principal at Adams Brown, has found her balance between a thriving career, a passion for fitness and a deep commitment to family. Her journey with Adams Brown has been marked by personal and professional growth, all while maintaining a lifestyle that keeps her energized and fulfilled.

“I started at Adams Brown as an intern and truly could not imagine myself working anywhere else in public accounting!”

Finding “My People” at 5 am

Meagan’s day starts long before the sun rises. At 3:30 am, she begins her routine, preparing to join her second family at the gym. This community, bound by a shared passion for fitness, has become an integral part of her life.

“The people I take classes with are my second family. We all have a passion for fitness and hold each other accountable to show up each day.”

The camaraderie of her gym family has made her early morning workouts an important part of her daily routine. Warm spin classes, held in a 95-degree room for 30 minutes, are a particular favorite of hers.

Balancing Career & Personal Life

At Adams Brown, Meagan has found an environment that encourages her balanced lifestyle. Meagan starts her workday around 4:15 am. This allows her to manage her responsibilities efficiently while still dedicating time to her fitness routine. The shift to working from home during the pandemic proved beneficial for her, and she now enjoys the productivity and balance that a virtual setting offers.

Adams Brown’s supportive culture has been key in Meagan’s success. She recounts a time during tax season when her youngest brother made it to the state basketball tournament.

“I was more than knee-deep in tax returns, but my manager did not bat an eye when I asked if it was okay to attend the state tournament to support my brother. So, I was in Emporia for three days during the busiest time of the year without feeling any guilt as my supervisor had fully supported the notion that family comes first!”

Family at the Core

Family is central to Meagan’s life. Living in Victoria, KS with her husband, Scott, who was her high school sweetheart, Meagan’s roots run deep. They have been married for 17 years.

“Family and friends – can’t get through your days without them!”

Her flexible schedule means she can dedicate her evenings to her family and manage her professional tasks effectively during her optimal working hours.

Client Perceptions & Personal Gains

Clients often marvel at Meagan’s early morning routine, but for her, it’s a fundamental part of maintaining mental clarity and productivity.

“Most people (clients and non-gym friends) think I’m nuts for getting up at 3:30 am, let alone going to the gym almost every weekday!”

Yet, this discipline translates directly into her professional life, allowing her to serve clients with a clear and focused mind.

Meagan’s journey with Adams Brown has been filled with proud moments, particularly in building the audit and attestation (A&A) team. From a small group of seven, they have grown to over 30 team members. This dedicated and responsive team has established a strong reputation in the market, delivering high-quality, timely services. Meagan is excited to see the continued success and growth of her team, whom she fondly refers to as “her people.”

Her journey is a testament to the firm’s commitment to fostering a culture where employees can thrive both personally and professionally.
