Climbing Mountains, Both Literal & Figurative
From the Rockies to Recovery
For Jonah Wagner, climbing mountains is more than just a metaphor. A native of Newton, Kansas, Jonah has summited nine peaks over 14,000-ft. in Colorado, a feat that reflects both his adventurous spirit and determination.
His love for the outdoors started early through his involvement in the Boy Scouts, where he earned his Eagle Scout rank. Growing up, Jonah spent countless weekends camping, hiking and fishing with his grandfather—activities that ignited a lifelong passion for nature.
“Being outdoors is where I feel most connected, whether I’m camping in the woods or standing at the top of a 14,000-ft. peak. Something about being in nature clears your mind and gives you a sense of accomplishment.”
Facing the Toughest Climb Yet
But no mountain Jonah has ever scaled compares to the challenge he faced after a car accident in the summer of 2021, which left him with a traumatic brain injury (TBI). The road to recovery was long and daunting. Still, just like those high-altitude summits, Jonah approached it with courage and determination—and with the unwavering support of Adams Brown.
“After suffering a TBI from the car accident, the outpouring of support I received from the firm was nothing short of above+beyond.”
From the moment Jonah was hospitalized, Adams Brown’s culture of care kicked into high gear. Colleagues and supervisors rallied around him, ensuring his needs were met both in and outside of the office.
Rallying Behind Recovery
Adams Brown’s FISH Committee, known for fostering a sense of community within the firm, stepped in immediately. They organized donations to help with Jonah’s healthcare and rehabilitation expenses. This generous support helped alleviate the financial burden of recovery, allowing Jonah to focus on healing.
“The firm didn’t just send me well-wishes—they put action behind their words. They even helped my parents install a handicap-accessible bathroom for me while I recovered.”
Keeping His Career on Track
Jonah’s return to work was anything but rushed. The firm held his position for six months, giving him the time and space to recover fully. When he was ready to come back, it was on a limited basis at first, gradually ramping up as he regained his strength. His supervisors made sure his workload was manageable and allowed him to take the necessary time off for medical appointments and physical therapy.
“My supervisors were incredible. They never pushed me beyond what I could handle and always encouraged me to celebrate the small wins during my recovery. Knowing I had their full support made a huge difference.”
Beyond supporting Jonah’s physical recovery, Adams Brown is also investing in his professional future. Through the firm’s educational reimbursement program, they are helping Jonah pursue his Doctor of Business Administration. With his MBA already in hand, Jonah credits the firm’s flexibility and encouragement for allowing him to continue advancing his career.
A Culture That Cares
Today, Jonah balances his work in Adams Brown’s IT department with his recovery and academic pursuits. He works from home on Fridays, and the firm continues to accommodate his schedule to ensure he can attend medical appointments as needed.
“The flexibility here is unmatched. It’s not just about working from home—it’s about the understanding and support behind that flexibility.”
Jonah’s story is a testament to the Adams Brown culture. It’s a culture where people are more than just employees. It’s a place where support isn’t just offered in times of professional challenge but also during personal hardship.
Looking Ahead
Despite the setbacks from his accident, Jonah is already eyeing his next personal goal: completing an Ironman triathlon. He’s had this goal since his college days on the triathlon team, and though it’s been delayed, Jonah’s determination has only grown stronger.
